Real Madrid’s worst start at home in over 20 years

It might have felt like Real Madrid’s luck at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu would return to its usual levels on Wednesday night against Real Betis, however the 1-0 defeat means they haven’t won any of their three LaLiga openers at home for the first time in over 20 years.

Draws with Valencia and Levante had worried many fans but the last ditch loss to Beticos has set alarm bells ringing across Los Blancos.

The last time the capital club failed to win any of their first three home games in the league was 1995/96, when they lost twice and drew once.

That year, Real finished sixth with neighbours Atletico Madrid claiming the league title with a gap of 17 points between the two clubs, and the current defending champions are already seven behind leaders Barcelona.
