Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reacted to Anthony Martial’s performance in Saturday’s hard-earned three points at Old Trafford in a Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Frenchman came off the bench to score a late winner as Manchester United beat Tottenham 1-0, to go three points above their North London visitors.
Speaking to Sky Sports in a post-match interview about Martial’s game, Mourinho said: “Sometimes he starts the match and his contribution is good but he doesn’t score.
“I don’t understand some reactions when people question ‘are
Red Devils’? The two strikers were up against amazing central defenders. some of the best in Europe.
“Martial scores with a bad shot, but the bad shots can be the most beautiful. To play well against a very, very good team feels even better.”
The result means United are now undefeated in 36 consecutive fixtures at Old Trafford since a 2-1 loss to local rivals Manchester City in September 2016. The Reds have not yet conceded in the league at home in this 2017/18 season and are the only team in Europe’s top five leagues who can boast this achievement.
Mourinho and his men who can continue the 100% record in this season’s European competition with another win will now turn their attention to the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday when Benfica come to Old.
