Juice WRLD’s ‘Lucid Dreams’ Lands Glowing Endorsement From Sting
Juice WRLD’s ‘Lucid Dreams’ Lands Glowing Endorsement From Sting: With Juice WRLD‘s “Lucid Dreams” emerging as a runaway commercial success, it was only a matter of time before the minds behind the iconic sample spoke out. Sting, whose “Shape Of My Heart” song was sampled by Juice WRLD, spoke with Billboard about the single, joking that the royalties “would put my grandkids through college.” He proceeds to give the song some serious praise, calling it a “beautiful interpretation that is faithful to the original song’s form.”
“I thought it was the most intelligent version of that riff that I’ve ever heard,” says Sting’s guitarist Dominic Miller, who also happens to be “Shape Of My Heart’s co-writer. “I was really happy with it. I love what he’s saying. He talking about something everyone can relate to, which is a breakup. It’s done in a very beautiful way. We’re really happy for his success and, of course, for us too.”
Back in July, Juice WRLD spoke with Billboard about being immediately enamored with the sample. “My producer sung me the beat, and then when I heard it, I was like, ‘Oh, wow, that’s a Sting sample. I think it was like eight bars of the song,” he explains. “That was like the beat that carried the whole beat, the melodies, all of it. It all revolved around the sample.”
“Shape Of My Heart” originally appeared on Sting’s fourth studio album Ten Summoner’s Tales. It has proven to be a hip-hop favorite, having been sampled on Tory Lanez’ “Pieces,” Nas’ “The Message,” “Russ’ “Parkstone Drive,” and more. Now that Sting has gone on record to deem it his favorite, it’s safe to say that Juice WRLD continues to pad the win column.
