Cristiano Ronaldo breaks La Liga record during Valencia 1-4 Real Madrid

Let’s be honest, it hasn’t been a great season for Cristiano Ronaldo.
The winner of the 2017 Ballon d’Or award has usually scored between 15 and 20 league goals by this stage of the season.
But prior to Real Madrid’s clash against Valencia at Mestalla this afternoon, the Portuguese superstar had managed to score just six goals in 15 league appearances.
This has led to suggestions from many football fans that Ronaldo, who turns 33 next month, is finally beginning to decline.
Real Madrid are not prepared to offer him the improved contract extension that he wants and that’s perfectly understandable. This is a player whose best days appear to be behind him.
That’s not to say, however, that Ronaldo is no longer one of the world’s best footballers.
He’s still capable of scoring goals on a consistent basis. Despite his La Liga woes, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has still found the back of the net 18 times in all competitions this season.
Well, actually, make that 20.

RONALDO NETS TWO GOALS AGAINST VALENCIA
Cristiano brought his tally to seven La Liga goals for the 2017-18 campaign with a brace against Valencia.
His first came from the penalty spot in the 16th minute following a swift Madrid counter-attack.
His second, converted in the 38th minute, also came from the penalty spot.

RONALDO BREAKS LA LIGA RECORD Vs VALENCIA
Ronaldo subsequently broke a La Liga record with his two goals today.
Per the excellent Mister Chip on Twitter, Ronaldo has surpassed the great Hugo Sanchez as the player who has scored the most penalties in La Liga history.
Sanches netted 71 spot-kicks during his illustrious La Liga career. Ronaldo has now netted 72.

HATERS WILL CALL HIM ‘PENALDO’ EVEN MORE NOW
This record will do little to stop the haters referring to him as ‘Penaldo’.

AT LEAST RONALDO CAN SCORE PENALTIES…
However, at least he can score them.
If there’s one thing that Ronaldo is certainly better than Messi at, it’s penalties.
